When I met Egbert, I quickly realized his HAM radio hobby came as part of the package. I often joined him at amateur radio gatherings like HAM Radio in Friedrichshafen, and while I enjoyed the social side of it, I never really felt the urge to get a license myself.

But Egbert had other plans—just before the COVID pandemic, he signed me up for a course. To my own surprise, I passed the exam for the entry-level license on my very first try, and that’s how I got my callsign ON3EBR.

Unlike Egbert, I’m not that active on the bands. But I confirm all contacts via LoTW and eQSL.cc. Paper QSLs will be answered via the bureau after receipt of your card. For me, it’s simply about the joy of making that occasional contact.

I’m absolutely delighted that—just like my OM, Egbert—I’ve succeeded in becoming a member of the Diploma Interests Group (DIG). Over the years, Egbert and I have attended many of the group’s gatherings together, and it feels wonderful to now be officially part of this inspiring community.
