When I met Egbert, I quickly realized his HAM radio hobby came as part of the package. I often joined him at amateur radio gatherings like HAM Radio in Friedrichshafen, and while I enjoyed the social side of it, I never really felt the urge to get a license myself.

But Egbert had other plans—just before the COVID pandemic, he signed me up for a course. To my own surprise, I passed the exam for the entry-level license on my very first try, and that’s how I got my callsign ON3EBR.

Unlike Egbert, I’m not really a QSL card collector—let alone someone who hunts for awards or rare DX. For me, it’s simply about the joy of making that occasional contact.

Sensual photoghraphy is another interest Egbert and I enjoy together. And when he swaps his transceiver for his DSLR, I sometimes end up on the other side of the lens as his muse.
